For Younger Students

Educating future blood donors is an important part of keeping our community’s blood supply available for Central Texas patients. Here are some exciting programs for students thanks to the generosity of our great community partners–Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), the Round Rock Express, local school districts, teachers, and America’s Blood Centers.

AMD Blood Buddy Patch Program

Take the Tour! Get a Patch!
Want to know what happens to a unit of blood after you have made your blood donation? Turn students of all ages on to the importance and the process of blood donation by touring The Blood and Tissue Center. The tour is perfect for scout troops; public, private, or home school students; health students; and medical technology or nursing students.

The tour starts in the donor waiting area and visits the Whole Blood Donor room, the Apheresis Donor room, the Component Processing laboratory and the storage and distribution area. Blood donation, blood components, processing, testing and distribution of blood products are covered in an almost guessing game format that is very interactive. The final and favorite step is enjoying juice and cookies, receiving the program’s coloring book and a colorful “I’m a Blood Buddy” community service badge.

Our thanks to AMD’s ongoing support of this program!

My Blood Your Blood

The fascinating and complex human circulatory system comes to life in an exciting multimedia science education program called My Blood Your Blood. This turnkey science curriculum teaches 5th grade students about basic blood biology and the human circulatory system in a fun and interactive way. The mission of My Blood Your Blood is to educate the next generation of blood donors in order to help them develop healthy and positive attitudes and behaviors about science, community involvement, and volunteerism. The goal of the Blood and Tissue Center is to offer the My Blood Your Blood Program kit to all 195 schools within our ten county service area. My Blood Your Blood is currently available to schools free of charge thanks to local funding provided by AMD.

The kit includes two 3-D animated videos, two 3-D animated CD’s, ten full-colored posters, ten teacher’s learning guides, and coloring book templates.
